Alfredo James Pacino

From the subtle cold performance in The Godfather, to the high testosterone Scarface, from the quiet intensity from Scent of a woman to complete unhingedness in Heat, this man has gave it all to the craft of acting, so who was he? The 1970s It is hard to say just how dominant Pacino was in the 1970s. He came into the scene with a style of method acting that felt terrifyingly authentic. The Godfather (1972) & Part II (1974): His portrayal of Michael Corleone remains one of the greatest character arcs in film history. The genius of this performance lies in the stillness. We watch a reluctant war hero freeze over into a ruthless, dead-eyed mob boss, speaking volumes with nothing but a cold stare. Serpico (1973) & Dog Day Afternoon (1975): Here, Pacino shifted gears, portraying live-wire, anti-establishment figures. As Sonny Wortzik in Dog Day Afternoon , pacing outside a bank and screaming "Attica! Attica!", he captured the paranoid, rebellious zeitgeist of 1970s Ame...

Animal Farm - How some animals are more equal

Image
Animal Farm - written by George Orwell is a very unique book to me. I just started reading books this year, like more seriously. And this was one of the books that felt an imprint on me. I've just read this once and it needs more than just one reading. The premise of animal farm is simple, Manor Farm is owned by Mr. Jones, he fails to properly treat the animals present in the farm, so the animals decide to do a revolution, led by the pigs of the farm overthrew Mr.Jones and manage the farm theselves, slowly this revolution looses its point making the whole ordeal trivival.  Sounds similar? Yeah thats the unfortunate part. Initially it was a metaphor to the Russian revolution, but it is also very relatable our country.  Animal Farm deals with very serious subjects, like how criticizism is treated as anti nationalism, how logic threatens the powerful. How every revolution becomes pointless.  George Orwell was once a victim of this, he, though an english man participat...

Waystar Royco is a corporate, founded by Logan Roy. At the end of his career, 3 kids are the probable candidate to become the next CEO of the company. Hence the competition among the three is the one line of the story  The theme of this series is "Money Wins", the unfortunate win of capitalism and the machivalieanism.  The positives of this series is that, it has one of the greatest performances produced by Tv series history. Logan Roy, the patriach played by Brian Cox has brought the intensity, aggressiveness and the tiredness due age on screen perfectly Siobhon Roy, played by Sarah Snook, Kendal Roy played by Jeremy Strong and Roman Roy is played by Kieran Culkin. Connor is played by Alan Ruck Tom played by Mathew Mcfaday and others Everyone has brought depth to characters, giving all the characters the soul, inner pain and flaws on screen beautifully. Cinematography is voyeristic. Handheld movements capturing the tension and liveliness perfectly Wr...

Hey Ram

Image
"Vengeance is an act of emptiness, that leads you to an endless cave of horror disguised as justice" Violence. Revenge. Morality. Love. Turbulence. Hostility. Cinematic themes that have been explored in the past, but have never been so dark, gritty, and introspective. The Partition in 1947 left a scar so deep in India's glorious history. This part of our history was never explored in Indian cinema. Hey Ram is one such film that delves into the topic of partition and questions whether vengeance is an act of justice or an act of self-satisfaction. Is the "truth" that we see the only side of the story? Kamal Hasan was not one to shy away from these. After dominating the 80s and 90s with timeless classics like Nayakan (1987) and Mahanadhi (1994), a question arises. The dawn of the 21st century saw the rise of a new generation. The change in audience was bound to be met with a change in cinematic standards. Hey Ram is one such film that pushed the standards and expl...

The Godfather 1 & 2

Image
The Godfather is a very important film in cinema history. Some consider it as one of the greatest films. Some debate its themes on the topic of violence, patriarchy etc. But one can never deny that this film has changed the way people saw films.  This blog will talk about both the ends of my version, one end is my fandom and the other will be my critique. Also, for  My praise for The Godfather will never end. Watching a man change, rooting for the man who destroys himself is sad yet reality. How a man, who never wanted to be in this became a part of the violence, how a man reaches his breaking point, told in a Shakespearean way makes the film special.  Firstly, this film is holy for every actor. Whether you like the film or not. One can never question the performance of the film  Marlon Brando, changed how acting was, by inculcating realism and emotional depth to his characters. The Godfather was his revival film for his career. Being just 40yr old, he brought in the...
